C4 The Plane Crash – Did You Check In?

20121015-092950.jpg

Did anyone watch Channel 4’s The Plane Crash? If not, and you have no idea what I’m yapping on about, it’s a documentary where a team of experts deliberately crash a 727 plane in order to study how to make flying (and surviving crashes safer.) Think car crash dummies on much bigger scale!

I hate flying but love to travel. I tend to feel sick about having to board a plane from the moment I book the tickets. The cabin crew can always tell I’m one of those passengers by my clammy hands, white as a sheet complextion and eager studying of the safety cards. You’d think I wouldn’t want to watch a programme about one of my biggest fears, but I was interested to find out some statistics on flying, (such as the fact that many airlines, including Ryanair and Virgin have never had a crash involving a fatality!) and I wanted to know which seats gave the best chance of survival in the most common of crashes.

The programme had a clever marketing campaign where you could ‘check into’ the flight, choose a seat and then check back after to see how your crash dummy fared. I chose 23B (the seat I was in when I last flew.) Apparently this was a good position and fared much better than 1st class in a hard crash landing.

Of course this test won’t give answers for every type of crash, but I applaud the attempt to try and make things safer.

How do you feel about flying? xo, hannah

A short and sweet post today, but I stumbled across this Roald Dahl quote and just wanted to share. Happy Monday! xo

Mood music: Devil’s Thunder

Do you ever get those days where you just want to curl up in a warm bed, draw the curtains and shut out the rest of the world?

I kinda feel like that today. So I’m doing just that, with Rachael Cantu’s Devil’s Thunder playing in the background. xo

Dream Find Do: Blogging Masterclass

I am a big lover of the Dream Find Do  site, {a hugely supportive and creative, online blogging masterclass} run by two of my favourite bloggers, Rebecca of Florence Finds and Michelle from Pocketful of Dreams.

A couple of weeks ago the site announced that they were holding a two-day blogging workshop in Manchester, to pass on the blogging skills they have learnt to those in the need, i.e me!

Two days of learning everything from photoshop tricks, to developing an advertising programme sounded like blogging heaven, I would have signed up there and then if I weren’t a little broke. {The course costs £500, which is a bargain considering the expert knowledge you’d receive.}

I resigned myself to the thought that I’d have to save some pennies and hope they do another workshop in the not so distant future… until this morning where I awoke to discover they are running a competition to WIN a place at said workshop! Yippee! I’m crossing all fingers and toes that I’m the lucky entrant, partly because I’ve never won anything before, but mostly because I want to go so badly, to network, to meet my blogging heroes and to pick up some skills to transform this little space of mine!

Always one to share, {although a little begrudgingly with this one,} head on over to Dream Find Do and discover for yourself what they’re all about!

Happy blogging, xo

Wednesday Wishlist: Tiffany Pendants

I recently lost a gorgeous yellow sapphire pendant that Mat surprised me with many years ago. I cried buckets when I realised it was gone from my neck. It was the first piece of jewellery that he ever bought for me and I wore it every single day without fail.

I’m still crossing my fingers and toes that the necklace will turn up, but in the meantime I’ve selected two Tiffany beauts for this week’s Wednesday Wishlist. After all nothing helps cheer you up than one of those little blue boxes!

Firstly, how cute is this pendant from their new Rubedo 1837 range? I love the interlocking circles and their new rose gold/silver alloy rubedo, it gives the metal a lovely coppery colour!

And ever since I saw Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf wearing one of these Tiffany key pendants, I’ve been obsessed. I particularly like the Fleur De Lis designs.

I think I may treat myself to quite possibly both one. Which do you think would is the more wearable of the two? They’re both so pretty! What are you coveting this week? xo, hannah

Wednesday Wishlist: Bonny Boutique

Can you believe another week has flown by already? It’ll be Christmas before we know it at this rate! This week I’ve been looking to spruce up our living room sofa. I’m going to buy some new cushions, {the husband just loves my obsession with pillows} and maybe a fancy throw.

I adore these fun creations by Bonny Boutique, who specialise in handmade soft furnishings, stitched from recycled and vintage fabrics. Gorgeous and green! I particularly like the moustache cushion, as little touches of whimsey like these make all the difference in turning houses into homes.

I think their bunting is pretty sweet too, especially as they offer a custom design service, if only I’d known about them in time for my wedding! Though I may order the 2012 bunting and have it as a keepsake of this momentous year.

Isn’t this shop the cutest find? Do you have a home DIY project your working on? I’d love to hear about it. xo, Hannah

Wednesday Wishlist: The Brit Edition

Welcome to a new feature I’m trying out called Wednesday Wishlist. Each week I’m going to share with you items I LOVE LOVE LOVE!

It’s not surprising with all the Olympic fever that’s going around that this week’s entry has a distinct British feel. I have been feeling rather patriotic of late and it shows in my choices…

I adore Pashley bicycles, handmade in Stratford-Upon-Avon these beauties are the Rolls Royce of cycle chic. Just look at the Brooks handlebars and saddle, the white road tires and the wicker basket! I’m jealous of anyone who owns one of these.

I’m tempted by these fluorescent bags by The Cambridge Satchel Company. The colours are to die for, they also have a limited edition pastel collection out too which screams summer. I’ll take a hot pink or orange, initial embossed version please! *Pic sourced from http://www.power-animals.com

This has to be the best Olympics tribute. An Anya Hindmarch Games bag, filled with goodies such as special Dunlop trainers that have been given the Hindmarch makeover and even a mini-trophy. It doesn’t come cheap at a cool £250, but you can buy here.

What’s on your wishlist this week? xo

things love creates

I  saw this article in today’s newspaper and it touched me so much that I had to share it here.

A lovely gentleman called Winston Howes painstakingly planted thousands of oak tree saplings and created a secret heart-shaped meadow in memory of his wife, Janet. His efforts would have remained unnoticed, (as it can’t be seen by the road,) were it not spotted by a hot air balloonist.

What an amazing tribute to his wife, from an obviously dedicated husband.

Happy Friday, xo

Couch to 5K

20120701-194055.jpg

I am unfit. Seriously unfit. And I loathe to admit it, overweight. There said it!

I really don’t enjoy exercise or sports of any kind, but more than that I really don’t enjoy how I feel about my body at the moment. It’s sluggish and difficult to dress. It’s my fault that I’ve let myself become lazy and it’s my fault that I let my sweet tooth dictate what I put in my mouth.

You’d think being married to a personal trainer I’d have no problems in the weight department! He’s a great help and is the most supporting and considerate person I’ve met, but I find it impossible to speak to him about my size issues. I think it’s because I’m embarrassed that I’m not the slim girl from 7 years ago anymore.

I want to lose the weight for him, but mostly I want to do it for me, for my health and self-confidence.

So I’m starting the Couch to 5K plan, a complete beginners guide to running designed to get you up from your couch to running 5K in 9 weeks, the sessions break down to 3 a week, the first consists of a 5 min brisk walk to warm up, then alternates of 60 seconds jogging and 90 seconds walking for 20 minutes. I think I can handle that. I’ve downloaded the app on my iphone to tell me when to stop/start and have invested in some new running shoes so I think I’m good to go, just hope I can stick to it! Wish me luck! xo

Benefit Brow Zings

I recently purchased some of my first pieces of Benefit makeup, (I know I’m super late to the party!) But I thought I’d do a quick review on their Brow Zings, a product which promises to shape and fill out eyebrows. I was really keen to try this out as I find my brows too light for my olive skin and dark hair. Plus you get a cute pair of mini-tweezers which are so handy for carrying around in your handbag!

(Please excuse the picture quality, I made the mistake of taking some of these at night, will be investing in a proper camera soon!)

I really liked this product, the colours weren’t too harsh or dark and I feel it gave a natural result…

BEFORE…

AFTER…

The kit cost £21, I’m not sure if I’d buy it again as now I have the mini-brushes and tools from the kit I could probably recreate the look with similar shades of brown eyeshadow, but overall I like the fuller look it gave my brows, so big points for that!

What do you use for your brows grooming? xo
